Looking for TV work in Northern Ireland (or any other part of the UK)?

Giants Causeway, Northern Ireland

Sometimes it must feel like all the best TV jobs are in London and it is true to say that it is a thriving hub of media production but it just takes a bit of research to dig out media employers in other parts of the UK (and indeed the world!).

We’ve had a couple of requests for information about work in Northern Ireland recently so figured we’d better get some useful links together for anyone in that part of the world. However these tips can also be useful whichever are of the UK you are hoping to find TV contacts.

PACT (Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television) is the UK trade association representing and promoting the commercial interests of independent feature film, television, digital, children’s and animation media companies.

If you go to their Find A Member page, choose an area of the UK from their drop down menus and identify which kind of business you are interested in (ie production) it will bring up a list of relevant production companies (obviously you can do this for any area in the UK).

A search for Northern Ireland would bring you this list of companies, which includes Wild Rover, Green Inc and several others based in Belfast.

Better still this list has all the details you need – address, telephone number, contact email addresses.

Another great resource is Northern Ireland Screen.

They offer a service to film and TV companies looking to base and/or shoot a production in Northern Ireland. They also provide details of crew and services in the region.  (And thank you to Belfast-based writer, director and photographer Lynne Davison ( for that valuable piece of information).

If you have a professional skill you’d like to offer then you can register your professional details with them via the Crew & Services section of their online production guide:

Also check the Calls for Crew section which will tell you who is in production in the area and looking for crew.

For Southern Ireland try this useful list of production companies:

For Wales you could try the Wales Screen Commission, and check out the Film Agency for Wales in case it provides any useful leads.

For Scotland try Creative Scotland, formerly Scottish Screen for news about productions and job opportunities.

Film Bang is a comprehensive guide for film and TV production in Scotland and includes a page listing production companies in Scotland.

Naturally I am assuming you have already read other articles here about how to sell yourself and have got a winning CV and a passionate covering email to send to these contacts.

Don’t forget there is also a comprehensive list of contacts on the Useful Links page as well – covering broadcasters, independent production companies, post production facilities and online TV jobs sites.
